The Academic Center for Learning and Teaching (ACLT) at the Libyan International University (LIMU) organized a workshop on “Question Bank Development for High-Quality Assessments” for faculty members of the Libyan International University on September 20, 2025.
The workshop aimed to equip faculty members with essential strategies for designing and managing structured question banks that enhance the reliability, validity, and fairness of student assessments. The comprehensive session covered the following objectives:
– Item Writing and Validation: Participants explored methods for developing clear and outcome-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs), extended matching questions (EMQs), and short-answer questions (SAQs), while ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives.
– Blueprinting and Mapping: The workshop introduced techniques for mapping questions to learning outcomes and competencies to ensure balanced coverage across knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
– Item Analysis and Quality Assurance: Faculty members learned to apply psychometric tools such as item difficulty, discrimination index, and distractor efficiency to refine and improve question quality.
– Technology-Enhanced Question Banks: Attendees were introduced to learning management systems (LMS) and assessment software for secure question storage, retrieval, and online delivery.
– Best Practices in Assessment: The session emphasized the role of question banks in promoting fairness, transparency, and standardization in student evaluation.
The workshop highlighted the importance of sustainable question bank practices in advancing assessment quality and preparing graduates who meet academic and professional standards. Faculty members gained practical skills and insights to enhance their teaching and evaluation practices through evidence-based approaches to assessment.
