Course Design
This workshop aims to equip educators and academic leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to design or redesign courses that are outcome-driven, constructively aligned, and compliant with international and national quality standards. Through interactive sessions, guided exercises, and collaborative design activities, participants will learn how to ensure that every element of a course (from objectives to assessment) supports meaningful student learning and institutional excellence.
Participants will explore the principles of backward design, outcome-based education, and constructive alignment, gaining practical tools to create courses that are coherent, transparent, and pedagogically sound. The workshop will also highlight how effective course design enhances student engagement, ensures equitable assessment, and aligns with frameworks such as WFME, the Bologna Process, NARS, and the Libyan NCQAAETI standards.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Apply Backward Design Principles: Design or redesign a course by starting with desired learning outcomes and aligning instruction and assessment accordingly.
Develop Measurable Learning Outcomes: Draft clear, action-oriented Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) using Bloom’s taxonomy.
Construct an Alignment Matrix: Link ILOs, teaching/learning activities, and assessment methods in a coherent, outcome-based framework.
Create an Assessment Blueprint: Plan assessment types, criteria, timing, and weighting to ensure fairness and alignment.
Plan a Teaching Schedule: Design a concise 4–6-week teaching plan and synthesize it into a one-page course syllabus.
Through this workshop, participants will strengthen their capacity for scholarly course design, enhance program quality, and contribute to sustainable faculty development within their institutions.
